Who does not know the singles ‘Longing for’, ‘To your arms of love’… With six albums to his name, one of which was nominated for a Grammy for Best Reggae Album, Jah Cure is a key member of the reggae scene. As a little boy he would sneak into local dancehalls where he got acquainted with music by Bob Marley, Black Uhuru and Marcia Griffiths. It was then that he decided that he wanted to be one of these greats. His reggae career started under the wing of Beres Hammond, who is still a mentor to him.
His career gained a sharp edge when he was wrongfully sent to prison for some time. “My struggles made me into who I am today”, he says about that time, and such can be heard in his intense vocal sound. This year exclusively at Reggae Geel with his own band from Jamaica. Who will sing along?
