Saxon Sound was founded in 1976 and became one of London’s most famous sounds. The collective formed and led by Musclehead and Denis Rowe, has in the past counted artists like Tippa Irie, Maxi Priest and Papa Levi as part of the crew; creating the perfect platform to launch their careers. The sound system put themselves on the map in the early 80s because of the typical ‘fast chat’ style pioneered by one of their Mc's named Peter King, that encouraged other Saxon MCs to develop the style further. Contrary to Jah Shaka for instance Saxon Sound were more about live MCs and singers performing on the instruments version of popular dancehall tunes as well their extensive collection of exclusive duplates by Jamaican artists which no other sound had in their record collection. In 1994, Saxon were the first British sound to win the World Clash as well as travel the world as brand ambassadors with sportswear brand Puma.  The Sound System still perform internationally and have a permanent, well-attended live music stage at London’s annual Notting Hill Carnival where you can find several popular Jamaican and UK artists performing.
