Catch a Mic is de jaarlijkse reggaewedstrijd georganiseerd door Reggae Geel en Poppunt. Dat Catch a Mic een mooie springplank is voor fris talent bewezen ONESTY en Saimn I. Twee jaar geleden zetten zij hun eerste stappen op het podium van Reggae Geel in de finale van Catch a Mic. Dit jaar staat ONESTY met Asham band op het hoofdpodium en Saimn I in de 18inch corner, het mekka voor de dubliefhebber.

Ook in 2009 maak je weer kans om op Reggae Geel te staan met je eigen selector, of met de selector van Bong Productions. De winnaar van de finale speelt bovendien op het Mekitburn-festival (september 2009) en de Bob Marley Birthday Bashment (februari 2010). Daarnaast krijgt hij of zij ook een mooie prijs van Roland en zal ook Democrazy nog een duit in de zak doen.

De niet-geselecteerden blijven niet in de kou staan: ze krijgen allemaal professionele feedback van de jury. Die bestaat dit jaar uit Karel Michiels (reggaejournalist), Crucial P (reggaeveteraan en ex-Vaartkapoen), Rootstuff (selector Bong Productions, Reggae Geel), Budhamas (Civalizee Foundation), David Smans (Hove Live) en Eric Smout (Democrazy). Reggae veteran DJ Top Cat (UK/JAM) zal op het festival meejureren.

Wie kan deelnemen?

MC's of singers met eigen lyrics op een rootsreggae-, ska-, dub- of dancehall riddim.

Hoe inschrijven?

1.    Als je nog geen vi.be-profiel hebt, registreer je.
2.    Zet min. 3 tracks én een bio op je vi.be-profiel. Vul aan met andere relevante info (concertkalender, foto's ...).
3.    Vul het inschrijvingsformulier in vóór 7 juni 2009.

Inschrijven voor Catch a Mic kan tot 7 juni 2009. In de week van 22 juni worden de geselecteerden bekend gemaakt op vi.be. Zij mogen op zaterdag 1 augustus hun kunnen tonen aan publiek en jury in de Bounce Dancehall op Reggae Geel.

Reggae Geel and Poppunt join forces to launch the third edition of Catch a Mic, the annual reggae MC contest. Catch a Mic has proven to be a great boost for fresh talent, well illustrated by this year main stage booking of ONESTY and an 18 inch spot for Saimn I. Both ONESTY and Saimn I were finalists in the Catch a Mic contest 2007 edition.

The concept stays the same: MC's (Mic Chatters) or singers with their own lyrics on (existing) rootsreggae-, ska-, dub- or dancehallriddims can (re)enter the contest. (We're not looking for live bands.). You can bring your own DJ or selector or get assistance of Bong Productions sound system.

Reggae Geel offers six finalists a spot in the Bounce Dancehall Saturday 1st of August 2009 to show off their skills. During the finals at the festival, public and professional jury will select one winner. He/She will get a spot on stage at the Bob Marley Birthday Bash (February 2010) and Mekitburn-festival, Democrazy will also offer a nice price to the winner(TBC). On top of that the winner receives a gift offered by Poppunt and Roland.

Reggae Geel and Poppunt vient de launcher le troisième edition de Catch a Mic, un concours annual pour des MC reggae. Cette année deux finalistes de Catch a Mic 2007 revient au Reggae Geel sur le Main Stage et le 18 Inch Corner. La preuve que le contest pousse le talent MC.

Le concept de Catch a Mic: Tous ceux qui s'amusent à créer ses propres lyrics sur un riddim dans les catégories rootsreggae, ska, dub ou dancehall, en néerlandais, français, anglais, anversois, ou limburgeois, ont l'opportunité de tenter sa chance au podium de Reggae Geel, samedi le 1 août. Les « mic chatters » intéressés peuvent amener son propre DJ (selector), ou ont la possibilité de faire appel à Bong Productions sound system.

Le jury, constitué de spécialistes, selectionnent six finalistes. On revoit les six finalistes sur le podium de Reggae Geel. Le gagnant final du concours est offert une place sur le stage du festival Bob Marley Birthday Bash, Mekitburnfestival et Democrazy(TBC). En plus, Poppunt et Roland offrent une surprise spéciale.
